Activities at Home

Sharing ‘phonics’ with your child

Phonics based reading involves learning together to recognise the distinct sounds that go together to make up words.

The key strategies for good communication when sharing a story are being face to face with your child, reading the story slowly, repeating words, keeping language simple and joining in together.

Making Play Dough

In nursery we make two types of play dough.  The cooked version stays fresh for longer if you keep it in an airtight container.

Chatter Matters – ‘Chatter Bags’

“Before young children can learn to talk they need to experience the world that their talking will describe.” (Time to Talk, 2012).

At Nature Trails we have looked at ways to encourage children to communicate effectively through play and through their interaction with parents and carers, as well as providing communication friendly environments and resources.
