Menus & Nutrition

One of the most important ways to help children to eat more healthily is by establishing good food habits in their early years. National standards for school food have transformed the way children eat in school, but with almost a quarter of children overweight or obese by the time they reach even their reception year, itís clear that supporting healthy eating can never begin too early.

Our Eat Better, Start Better (2012) guided menus are rotated on a four weekly basis. Our resident chef cooks food from scratch and is happy to cater for all dietary requirements. Here are examples of the freshly cooked and prepared food that we offer:

Breakfast

Crumpets with banana
Porridge with blueberries

Wholemeal bread toasted with fruit

Cereal selection with fruit
Toasted bagels

Snacks (offered twice a day in between meals)

Hard boiled egg / fruit
Crackers and soft cheese / fruit
Bread sticks, hummus / fruit
Celery, cucumber or carrot sticks and cream cheese dip
Pitta sticks and sour cream dip

Breadsticks & mozzarella balls
Rice cakes with fish / meat pate

 

Lunch

Spaghetti Bolognese with mixed vegetables / Home-made ginger sponge & custard
Shepherds Pie with seasonal vegetables / Rice pudding & apricot puree
Fisherman’s pie, seasonal vegetables / Fruit salad & ice-cream
Moroccan Lamb (with apricots), roasted vegetable couscous / Eton mess
Chinese style pork or chicken with noodles and beansprouts / Peach crumble and ice cream
Pork & Apple casserole with new potatoes & carrots / Pancakes & warm fruit sauce
Turkey Pastitsio / Fruit yoghurt


Vegetable Lasagne, curries and mild vegetable chilli dishes or vegetable bakes are served to everyone at least once a week. For each day there is a vegetarian option that looks similar to the meat dish served but is made with lentils, pulses and occasionally meat substitutes such as Quorn.
